Nanocellulose
Nanocellulose, as a new type of bio-based functional material, is biodegradable, lightweight, high-strength, and biocompatible. It is regarded as a material in the “post-carbon fiber era” that is expected to replace metals and plastics in the future.
Characteristics of nanocellulose prepared by high-consistency grinding:
High aspect ratio: better flexibility, transparency, and mechanical strength than conventional nanocellulose.
As the National Engineering Research Center for Paper Chemicals and the Zhejiang Innovation Center for Bio-based Fully Degradable Nanomaterials, Hangzhou Research Institute of Chemical Technology has undertaken projects under the National Key R&D Program of China during the 13th Five-Year Plan and the Zhejiang “Vanguard” (Jianbing) Program. It has built a 1 ton/day NFC nanocellulose pilot demonstration line (mechanical method), and its products have been successfully applied in transfer printing coatings, reinforcement/grammage reduction of paper-based materials, barrier materials, greaseproof paper, cosmetics, superabsorbent materials, 3D printing materials, fully degradable materials, functional coatings, and other fields. Current products are in short supply. Phase II (2 tons/day) is under installation, and Phase III (5 tons/day) is under design and planning and will be commissioned by the end of 2024. After Phase III is commissioned, it will be the world’s largest single-line nanocellulose production line.
